Webinar on Sustainable Mining was conducted on 18th April, 2022 at KIIT School of Electrical Engineering

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering (SOEE) organized a webinar on ‘Sustainable Mining’ recently. The webinar was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. B. K. Nayak, Dean, SOEE. Mr. Soumya Prakash Patra, General Manager & HOD, Electrical Department, NALCO, Angul delivered the webinar talk on the current technology of the mining process and smart mining system. The session encouraged the 4th semester electrical students and faculty members to a new area of research. The talk was followed by a stimulating question and answer session. Dr. Pampa Sinha, Assistant Professor, SOEE coordinated the webinar, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sarita Samal, Assistant Professor.

SOEE Organizes Webinar on ‘Energy and Environment Problems Facing the Third World and their Probable Solution for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation’on 26th February 2021

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering (KSOEE) organized a webinar on “Energy and Environment Problems Facing the Third World and their Probable Solution for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation” on 26th February 2021,for the B.Tech, M.Tech,Ph.D students of School of Electrical Engineering.The speaker of the session is  Dr. D. P. Kothari,  Director, Research and Professor,S.B Jain Institute of Management, Nagpur,Chairman, Board of Governors of THDC Institute of Hydropower Engineering and Technology, Tehri ,Visiting Professor  at Wainganga  college  of  engineering,  Nagpur.

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering Celebrates 53rd Engineer’s Day

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering, in association with IEEE Consumers Electronics Society and IEEE IES Society, Bhubaneswar, organized a Webinar on the occasion of Engineer’s Day on 15th September 2020.

The Webinar was graced by dignitaries from different fields: Dr. Sudip Sen, Founder & CEO of Uttaran ETC; Er. T. Ch. Hanuman Rao, Director, Live Wires, Hyderabad, and former Chief Engineer, APSEB, Hyderabad; Er Asutosh Rath, DGM (Corporate Communications), NALCO, Bhubaneswar; Er Partha Roy, Former Vice President, Bharti Airtel Ltd; Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan, General Manager-Chemical Disaster Management Cell, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Odisha; Mr. Sai Krisna Rao, General Manager, Education Training, Schneider Electric, Bangalore; Dr. Basant Kumar Mishra, Sr Vice President and Global Head-Delivery & Operation, Tech Mahindra; Er Ananta Rao Mangalagiri, Information Technology & Advisor, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd, Bhubaneswar; Dr. S.M.Ali,  FIE, Director (Membership) – The Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata; Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU; and Prof (Dr.) Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, SoEE.

Dr. Sudip Sen discussed the concept and history of multidisciplinary research. He advised the students to start networking with good organizations and build relationships from the 3rd year onwards.  He emphasized on having an extraordinary CV.

Er T. Ch. Hanuman Rao told students to upgrade themselves and become better every day. Getting a job should not be the sole objective and making money is only a byproduct, he said.

Er. Asutosh Rath emphasized on the great contributions of M. Visvesvaraya, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Engineer’s Day. He is respected for his work not only in India but in other countries like Sri Lanka, and Tanzania, etc. He stressed on two aspects – academic excellence and understanding of self.

Er Partha Roy discussed at length how to train our brain to replicate an amoeba, to adapt to flexibility, and how the pandemic has allowed social nearing and physical distancing, He also asked the students to be well prepared and make themselves relevant for the upcoming and already existing digital transformation.

Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan highlighted the importance of engineers and explained why they are optimists. Communication and new found technologies have been possible because of the engineers, he said. He emphasized the importance of safety, health and welfare of the workers at work.

Mr. Sai Krisna Rao said that India has the youngest youth populace who have ample opportunity to serve the world. He praised the initiative of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his plans about Skill India which is coming in a big way.

Dr. Basant Kumar Mishra suggested ways to create a trillion dollar economy. Being self reliant is important, he said. He focused on mechanization in our farming sector as 70% of India’s population lives in the villages.

Er. Ananta Rao Mangalagiri stated that students have to be sensitive about preparing sensible and viable project proposals, work out cash flows, etc. They should look forward to being entrepreneurs and improve their communication, he added.

Dr. S.M.Ali praised Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for his tireless efforts towards excellence and self-reliance. He complimented the Director of SoEE and the Registrar, KIIT-DU for arranging the programme. He told students to actively involve themselves in research and development.

Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries for joining at such a short notice and thanked the Director for arranging the same. “Engineer’s Day has been dedicated to all those without whom machines would not have been made and technology would not have taken us to the next level”, he remarked. Earlier, Prof (Dr.) Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi welcomed the dignitaries and set the context of the webinar.

The session was coordinated and anchored by Prof. Snehalika and Ms. Ruksha Mohanty. The session concluded with Prof. Subrat Behera, Associate Dean, T&P proposing the vote of thanks. The event was attended by all faculty members, technical staff, and B. Tech students of the School.

Protection of Smart Grid

The School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a webinar on “Protection of Smart Grid” at 6th September 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in Google Meet platform https://electrical.kiit.ac.in//meet.google.com/zdp-ycfn-qid. The topic covered important areas like protection of the smart grid, a brief introduction of Microgrid and nano-grid

Speaking at the webinar, Dr. (Mrs.) Premalata Jena, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. was the invited speaker. she spoke about the importance of smart grid, a different aspect of grid protection also discussed present and future seniors for smart grid protection in India.

Dr. (Mrs.) Premalata Jena stated the importance of smart grid technology for power distribution, integration of renewable and non-renewable energy sources with the smart grid. She explained how smart grid helps for effective electrical load distribution and to overcome load encroachment issues. Dr.B.K.Panigrahi, Professor IIT Delhi also gives his valuable time for a panel discussion and makes the webinar grand with his presence.

Subhendu Bikash santra (faculty SOEE), Monilisha Mohanty(PhD. Scholler), Anup Kumar Nanda, Babatunde Tolu Ogungbe (international student), RABI MISHRA(Ph.D. Scholler) asked few questions related to smart grid. All the questions were answered very well by the speaker. Dr. CK Panigrahi, Dr. MK Maharana, Dr. S.C. Swain were among the prominent participants. Dr. CK Panigrahi, Director SOEE Discussed about Lab development and how KIIT student, faculties can collaborate with different IITs in terms of research Lastly, Dr. Srikanta Mohapatra proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the Honorable Founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Director-SOEE, Dr. CK Panigrahi, the participants.

Reskill of Qualities and Career Opportunity in Present Challenging Context

The School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University organized an Online Webinar on “Reskill of Qualities and Career Opportunity in Present Challenging Context” on 10th September 2020.

Dr. C. K. Panigrahi, Director, School of electrical engineering graced the Webinar by welcoming the guest of the session Dr. Sudip Sen, Founder & CEO of Uttaran ETC along with all the participants.

Dr. Sudip Sen started the session by focusing on the effect of COVID-19 pandemic situation in our society in various aspects. He motivated the students to Re-think and Re-shape their mindset considering the changing traditions in various sectors. He emphasized the need to re-align the skill set with the new avenues evolving around and also quick adaptability to the changed environment for sustainable growth of the students. He discussed about the new trends and possible future areas to work for the students after the pandemic situation along with the mindset to prepare for their placements.

Dr. Sudip Sen also talked about the key attributes students should possess such as Remote Leadership, Remote Learning ability, virtual team work and embracing new technology. The session being come to final after interactive and informative Q&A session. Dr. Deepak Kumar Gupta, Faculty of the school coordinated the whole sessions proactively. The vote of thanks was proposed by Puja Singh, Student Representative. During sessions, faculty members, B. Tech students, M. Tech. Scholars and Research Scholars of the School were present and they appreciated the speaker.

Internet of Things(IoT), and Wireless Sensor Networks

KIIT School Of Electrical Engineering and IEEE Consumer electronics Society , Bhuboneswar Conducts hands-on industry collaborative Webinar on “ Internet of Things(IoT), and Wireless Sensor Networks”

As a part of its outreach engagement activity, School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a webinar on “Internet of Things(IoT), and Wireless Sensor Networks” on 17th August 2020. Speaker of the day, Mr. Kanagaraj Krishno morrthy , Sr. System Engineer, Syngient Technology Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore, discussed in detail about the different protocol used in IoT, wireless networking, LTE, CDMA, GSM, 4G, 5G and Interconnected vehicle based on NETSIM software.
The session was very interactive with active participation of 150, faculty members and students from various parts of India and aboard.

Online Tech Talk on topic titled  “Application of high voltage for air pollution control”

On 12th August, 2020,  Tech Talk on “Application of high voltage for air pollution control”  was organized by School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT DU which was a joint activity of  IEEE Consumer Electronics  and IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Chapters, Bhubaneswar.

At the outset, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, SoEE, welcomed Prof. Snakarsan Mohapatro, School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar who has been invited for talk and thanked him for giving his valuable time for Tech Talk. He requested expert to have a joint research collaborations of IIT Bhubaneswar and KIIT-DU so that research scholars may contribute in the area.

Prof. Mohapatro delivered lecture on the different causes of air pollution and adverse effects on human beings. Later, he described about high voltage based non-thermal plasma treatment for diesel exhaust pollution control. He also responded to various queries raised by research scholars. He elaborated how high voltage can be generated from a 12 V battery that would be the only source of power in a vehicle so that the non-thermal plasma treatment can be facilitated.

All participants appreciated the way the speaker has delivered the content and discussed about the future scope of the research work. The program is coordinated by Dr. Srikanth Allamsetty, FIC, Tech Talk. During talk, all faculty members, IEEE students members and Research Scholars of the School were present.

Webinar on “Research Networking with Peer Group” 18/7/2020

School of Electrical Engineering conducted Webinar on 18/7/2020. Prof Jayant Parida, Director, Quality Assurance Cell delivered the talk on “Research Networking with Peer Group”. He highlighted on how to conduct good research and increase connectivity with industries. All Faculty members, M.Tech. Scholars and Ph.D. Scholars joined the session.

4-Days Webinar was conducted by School of Electrical Engineering on various topics related to project proposal, research project and IEEE society activities from 14th July to 17th July, 2020

Day 1 (14th July, 2020) Dr. Subrat Kumar Barik and Dr. Padarbinda Samal spoke about “Project proposal to funding agencies”. Day 2 Dr. Alivarani Mohapatra and Dr. Sriparna Roy Ghatak highlighted about “Finding        research problems”. Day 3 Prof Subhendu Bikash Santra and Prof Tapas Roy spoke about ‘Publishing        research articles in referred Journals”,Day 4  Dr. Subhra Debdas and Dr. Tanmoy Roy Choudhury highlighted on “IEEE Society Activity”. The webinar was mostly focused to motivate the M.Tech and Ph.D research scholars.
