workshop on “Social Networking for School Branding” on 4th April 2022

A Workshop was conducted on “Social Networking for School Branding”  on 4th  April 2022 at 5:15 PM in the Microprocessor Lab, School of Electrical Engineering for School Branding. All the teaching and non-teaching participated in the event, to understand the process of social networking and involve in the School Branding. Dr. Subhra Debdas co-ordinated  the event and explained details of use of social  media like facebook, twitter, linkedn, Instagram.

Mega Digital HR Konclave 2021 Virtual Panel Discussions and Workshops

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering (KSOE) organized a virtual panel discussion and three numbers of workshops on 25th  September 2021 as a part of ‘12th  Mega HR Konclave 2021’. More than 6 dignitaries from leading companies from India along with more than 100 student participants and faculties attended the Conclave.

The panel discussion on “What Competencies Govern Hybrid Workforce in Electrical Industries” was moderated by Mr. Surya Jeedigunta, CEO,3P Foundation,
SNJ Solar. The panelist included Dr. Shefali Bahl, AVP-HR, EXICOM; Mr. Shishir Sahay, HEAD ENGINEERING, KPIT; Mr. Satish Mohapatra, HEAD HR, SIEMENS

INFRA; Mr. Vijayant Ranjan, CHIEF TROMBAY, TATA POWER. Dr. B. K. Nayak, Dean, School of Electrical Engineering welcomed the panelists to the discussion, which was coordinated by Prof. Subrat Behera, Assistant Professor & Assoc. Dean (T&P), SoEE. The experts deliberated upon the recent trends of technology which has become the need of the hour to realize and understand by academic institutions. Continuous learning and self development also plays a pivotal role for every individual. All experts delivered on the same lines and the discussion ended with vote of thanks by Prof. K.V.V. S. R. Chowdary. The Panel discussion was followed by three parallel workshops: Workshop-1: Mr. Sanjeev Handoo, working as a Function Leader AT & Electric power systems EPS in Andritz Hydro Pvt. Ltd addressed the gathering on continuous learning in electrical.

Workshop-2: Mr. Ashis Parida Founder & CEO of Grinity Intellect Pvt. Ltd. and Shift E-Mobility Pvt. Ltd. delivered the talk on Creation of visionary leadership in the “Phygital workplace”.

Workshop-3:-The workshop was conducted by Mr. Kailash Kumar,Plant-HR Manager in Exicom Tele Systems Ltd. The topic was about ‘ Continuous learning in Phygital workspace’ He highlighted on Importance of training opportunities at work. Success as sum of preparation and opportunity.

Dr. Subhasri Kundu, Prof. Ankit Soni, Prof. Subhendu Mishra, welcomed the speakers in the respective workshops & coordinated the sessions with vote of thanks.

Prof. Subrat Behera, Assoc Dean, Training and Placement, SoEE was the overall coordinator of Panel discussion and workshops.

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering organized a workshop on “Career and Personal Branding” on 29th August 2020 at 10:00am on virtual mode.

Ms. Shivani Talesar, International Speaker and Thought Leader, Singapore delivered the talk on Career and Personal Branding .  She focused on the key aspects like career path, common mistakes during job search, meaningful networking, customizing resume, importance of hybrid skill sets. She emphasized on personal branding and use of social media at right point of time.

Mr. Swetaketu Baidya, Director (Technology & Operations),Singapore –    Inovaantage Pvt Ltd put his opinion regarding job opportunities during COVID situation. He emphasized on attending short term courses during this pandemic time to enhance the knowledge skills.

Ms. Nisha Tiwari, HR & Operations (Manager) India Inovaantage Pvt. Ltd expressed her views regarding equality of job opportunities for both boys and girls.Girls should decide the type of jobs they want to take irrespective of any gender bias.

Prof Subhendu Mishra, School of Electrical Engineering, extended a warm welcome to the speaker & coordinated the session. Dr. Chinmoy kumar Panigrahi , Director School of Electrical Engineering emphasized on how to bridge the gap between research and the real time job world and also motivated students with his views to have a bright career.  Faculty members, B. Tech, M. Tech students as well as research scholars of the school were present during the workshop session. The session ended with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Arjyadhara Pradhan.

Virtual Workshop on ‘Modern Instrumentation and Control’ on 23rd  August 2020

The School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University organized  a Virtual Workshop on ‘Modern Instrumentation and Control’ on 23rd  August 2020.The Resource Person, Mr. Ashok Kumar Panda, Dy. Director, EME Army Headquarters, New Delhi emphasized on the basics of Modern Instrumentation and Control. He conducted a participatory discussion on the emerging opportunities for the fresh graduates and students’ readiness to fulfill the industry requirements.

Earlier, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, SoEE extended a warm welcome to the resource person. He also highlighted the research credentials of the School. Dr. T. R. Choudhary, Course Faculty coordinated the session proactively. Students and faculty members of the School were present during the workshop.The session concluded with collection of the feedback through a Google form link from the participants.

Renewable Energy: The Sun-Shine Sector to be in

School of Electrical Engineering organized a webinar titled “Renewable Energy: The Sun-Shine Sector to be in”, as a part of the Universities on-going HR Conclave 2020. The webinar was held on 29th August, 2020 from 11.30 AM to 1.00 PM and was attended by more than 45 students.

The speaker for the webinar was Mr. Varinder Singh, who currently works as HR manager at Fortum, which is one of the largest power companies in Europe and now has various projects in India. Mr. Singh, an alumnus of KIIT and IIM-A has previously worked for over 5 years with Tata Power.

The webinar started off with an introduction of Mr. Varinder Singh by Prof. Swagat Das. Mr. Singh then presided over the session with a brief background on Fortum and its dominance in the field of renewable energy in the Nordic and the Baltic countries. He also enlightened the audience with Fortum’s recent projects and involvements in the field of Renewable Energy in India, especially in the field of Solar PV, and how the power sector has changed over the years and what are the major milestones achieved by our Government, as India moves towards its goal of carbon neutrality.

Mr. Singh also talked about the recent technological and economical advancements in the Solar PV industry in India and described how the rate per kWh has reduced drastically over the years. He also emphasized on the importance of IT and effects of digitization on the renewable energy industry.

At the end of the webinar, a few questions were asked by the audience to Mr. Singh. One of such question asked was “What are the financial benefits of Solar PV?”, to which Mr. Singh answered by drawing a contrasting picture of how costly it was building a PV plant 10 years ago to how cheaper it has become now. He also stated that the Solar Panels being used have higher periods of warranty of around 25 years and efficiency of the entire system has increased with addition of automation and AI.  Other questions included impacts of solar PV in households, tax incentives and government policies, future of solar PV in India, and some other technical questions regarding operation of a Solar PV plant.

The webinar ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Babita Panda.

Workshop Titled: Smart Energy Stimulus Means Thinking Small

Dr. Deepak Gupta grace the workshop by welcoming the guest of the session Mr. Prasanta Patra, Head(Engg.), Astronergy. Mr. Prasanta Patra started the session by focusing on the smart grid and smart energy. He shared very in-depth knowledge about smart grid. He emphasizes on the requirement of changing present infrastructure by adding advanced metering system, monitoring and automatic control equipment. Then he discussed about the benefit of smart grid in terms of efficiency, reliability and environment aspects. Some solar applications were also discussed by the speaker such as: Solar power transportation, solar heating and cooling, solar thermal electricity, solar energy storage etc. He also talked about the future scope which can be taken up by the researchers. Utility grid connected PV, solar pump for irrigation, off/on grid PV for residential, micro grid and utility grid PV hybrid solar were some applications and research problems discussed by the speaker along with some start up ideas. The session being come to final by discussing about the inter-disciplinary development in this area such as thermal imaging, IOT based SCADA, live plant monitoring, performance analysis using machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) followed by Q&A session. The session was really very interactive which was possible by the participants and finally ended with the vote of thanks  by Dr. Ranjeeta Patel.

Becoming industry ready – Preparing for Placements & Competency development for better Employability

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering organized a workshop on ‘Becoming industry ready – Preparing for Placements & Competency development for better Employability’ on 29th August 2020 in online mode.

Mr. Niraj Kumar, General Manager (Corporate HR and Head of HR Operations), Havells India Limited delivered the talk on Becoming industry ready – Preparing for Placements & Competency development for better Employability.  He focused on the aspects of preparation to succeed with 90% planning and 10% execution. In addition, he also exposed the various aspects pertinent to the interviewer’s angle. Further on how to write eye catching resume, interview tips, preparation for the anticipated questions, competencies, skills and qualities essential for the successful carrier. Students participated throughout the session actively with more interest and enthusiasm.

Prof. K.V.V.S.R. Chowdary, School of Electrical Engineering, extended a warm welcome to the speaker & coordinated the session. Faculty members, B. Tech, M. Work shop- Global HR strategies for Gen-Z

The workshop started with inagural speech by Dr. Chitralekha Jena with welcome address and guest introduction sharp at 10.30am. The host moving forward the talk with a KIIT video showing key functionaries.

The talk is continued with the guest speaker Mr. Debjyoti Mohanty, GM Global HRBP, AP Moller maersk Technology. He started his talk with introducing his website www.menti.com with the code 8241279 by choosing any word for discussion by gen-Z. He discusses about Gen-Z expectation at workplace with survey hypothesis of professionalism, helpful collegues, encouragement, cleanliness. Also talked the think of gen-Z by digital native or expect proper workplace. Continued with briefing of gen-z connection with industry by proper communication, short content, feed curiosity, connect various technology, inspire to gen-Z, build their expertise etc. with constructive action like imagine, compose, activate for employees in workplace.

The workshop is ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Chitralekha jena and Prof Subodh Kumar Mohanty, Assistant professor, school of Electrical Engineering.

Current Status of Indian Economy and its effect on job market

Speaker: Mr. Subrat Das, CFO, Sembcorp Green Infra

Session started with introduction of Mr. Subrat Das, Chief Financial Officer at Sembcorp Green Infra Ltd. Before World War II, mostly human resources were used for training soldiers and other purposes but not economic development, but after World War II economic development came into issue by Europe and Russia. Through economic development, standards of living of human improved. Human development and Economic development are completely interlinked with each other. He discussed about how the present government is working to boost the economy. National Infrastructure Policy aims to shift people from rural area to urban area so that GDP can be increased and urbanization will boost employment generation. He also discussed about Paris Act for climate change due to urbanization and its results. He discussed about the creation of job market in the field of electricity, transportation and infrastructure and how these sectors can boost the economy. Proper transportation is required for proper movement of goods particularly agricultural goods. Now a days thrust area in the field of energy is solar energy. Research and innovation is going in the field of solar energy and entire country can live on solar energy. There is planning of one land, one Sun and on grid. Africa,India, Bangkok and Thailand are planning to setup one grid of solar energy for continuous electrical supply . Then the session ended with vote of thanks.

Leading in a Diverse and Inclusive Culture

School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a HR conclave based on the theme “Leading in a Diverse and Inclusive Culture “, on 29th August, 2020 in online mode. The conclave lecture was delivered by Mr. Mukesh Tiwari, CHRO, Hentong Optic-Electric India.

The welcome address was given by Dr. Kundan Kumar, Asst. Prof., SOEE, KIIT University. Mr. Tiwari highlighted the important traits of an leader and stressed the importance of working in a diverse environment. At the end of the session he clarified the doubts of the U.G., P.G., PhD Scholars, and the faculty members. The conclave was closed by Dr. Padarbinda Samal, Assistant Professor, SOEE, KIIT University.

HR CONCLAVE Workshop on Design thinking

Ruvalma Ms. Ruvalma Fernandes is a Human Resources professional with almost 15 years of expertise.  She joined the Essar Administration team back in November 2005 after acquiring her B.A. degree (First class) from Sophia College, Mumbai University. She then pursued to do a Diploma in Human Resources from the Welingkar’s Institute of Management, Mumbai. Her current assignment with the Power Business has been since February 2015. Prior to Essar Power, she was handling HR for The Mobile Store, worked as part of the Corporate HR function & also the Talent Acquisition team of the Essar Group.

Her core expertise areas include HR operations, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management and Employee Engagement

The Session started with a welcome address and introduction of the speaker Ms. Ruvalma Fernandes by Prof. Snehalika. The session continued with a video of the University to enlighten the speaker about KIIT, Deemed to be University. Ms. Fernandes then addressed the audience and spoke about the major parameters contributing to the concept of Design Thinking. The address was then followed by a question and answer session in which the students raised their questions. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. S R Prusty. Overall the workshop was a huge success and ended on a note that Ms. Fernandes will be visiting our campus soon.

KIIT School of Electrical Engineering organized a workshop on ‘Role of Technocrats in Building Organizational Culture’ on 29th August 2020 on virtual mode.

Mr.Asutosh Rath, Deputy General Manager (Corporate Communication), NALCO, delivered the talk on Role of Technocrats in Building Organizational Culture.  He focused on the key aspects like, importance human resources in an industry, role of a HR manager, role of technocrats as a motivator for their co workers, understanding the concept of a good organization and the factors controlling it, the ethics of an technical executive to fit into  an organization’s culture, building trust among the co workers.
