The Electrical Engineering program offered by the Kalinga Institute Industrial Technology involves laboratory practices and for that the department has set-up various hi-tech laboratories that help students develop real-time skills and abilities.

Facilities:

Emergency response for electrical fire, Safety precautions taken inside the lab, Dos and don’ts guidelines  ,Fast aid Box and fire extinguishers. Lab is well equipped with AC/DC Voltmeter,1 phase Transformer for Megger Test, wattmeter LPF type, AC/DC Ammeter,Choke Coil, Single phase and three Variac,Megger/WACO,1 phase Auto Transformer,DC Shunt Motor,3 Phase Squirrel Cage and Slip Ring induction motor , DC compound Machine for insulation Test and MULTIMETER DIGITAL type. It also has Outside and inside Caliper, Standard wire Gauge for measuring different dimensions of DC Machine and Induction Motor.

Scope:

Scope of the lab is to realize the importance of safety and adopt safety practices in the laboratory and other work areas, adopt team working skills as a member of group with common objective, find out the different parameters both in DC and AC circuit by application of different Theorems, identify the different parts of DC and AC machines, describe operational features , determine resistance in incandescent lamp and power factor in fluorescent lamp by applying established theorems.

Scope:
Automatic control is the application of control theory for regulation of processes without direct human intervention. This laboratory course gives hands-on experience of the feedback automatic control concepts covered in the theory course. Application of both the theoretical concepts and computational tools while designing controllers for a given hardware application with a objective to facilitate, educate and evaluate the ability of the students to perform feedback control system analysis.

Scope:
In Electrical Machines Lab, working principles and characteristics of DC and AC electrical motors, and power generators are demonstrated. Transformer experiments cover transformer conversion ratio, mono phase transformer short circuit, loaded, and unloaded working, and mono phase transformer polarity determination. DC electrical machine experiments cover externally excited DC generator unloaded working characteristics and load characteristics. Asynchronous electrical machine experiments cover asynchronous electrical machine unloaded working, and three phase asynchronous electrical machine loaded working. Scope:
Microprocessor technology is an exciting, challenging and growing field which will pervade industry for decades to come. This practical course of microprocessor and microcontrollers presents an integrated approach to hardware and software in the context of 8085, 8086 microprocessor and 8051 microcontroller. The main objective of this lab course is to gain the practical hands on experience of programming in 8085, 8086 microprocessor and 8051 microcontroller and also interfacing of different peripherals to microprocessor.

Scope:
Provides platform for interdisciplinary research with the provision of Analog Oscilloscope, 30MHz with colour LCD, DSO 50 MHz, Function Generator Scientific(0-1MHz, multimeters, general purpose Integrated Circuits, zener diode etc for design and verification of basic electrical and electronic circuits. Enhances ability of the students to analyse various electrical and electronics circuits like verification of Thevenin’s theorem, Norton’s theorem, Two-port network, R-C phase shift oscillator, design of high pass and low pass filter etc.

FacilitiesDC-DC converters, DC-AC PWM inverters, AC-AC voltage regulators (single phase/3phase), Dual converters, Cycloconverters DSP processors, Code Composer studio, VISSIM software and Variety of CRO are the add on packages for test set up.

Scope:
Confirmatory and explorative experiments are carried out by under-graduate, post-graduate and doctoral students throughout the year. Formulae and waveforms of all the converters are verified on the tables of the experiments. Moreover evaluation of performance of the converters are being carried out and verified by MATLAB simulink environment. New configurations of the power electronic converters are set up and their efficacy is assessed.

Scope:
Electrical power system simulation involves power system modeling and network simulation to analyze electrical power systems using design/offline or real-time data. Provides platform for planning and operational situations for normal and abnormal operating condition of power system. The important study of power system simulation lab includes Load flow (power flow study),Short circuit or fault analysis, Protective device coordination, discrimination or selectivity, Transient or dynamic stability, Harmonic or power quality analysis, Optimal power flow etc. To perform these study and modelling there are many power simulation software packages in commercial and non-commercial forms which includes MATLAB, PSCAD, MiPower, Digsilent power factory, ETAP, Powerworld, LAB VIEW, MULTISIM.
