Dr. Deepak Gupta grace the workshop by welcoming the guest of the session Mr. Prasanta Patra, Head(Engg.), Astronergy. Mr. Prasanta Patra started the session by focusing on the smart grid and smart energy. He shared very in-depth knowledge about smart grid. He emphasizes on the requirement of changing present infrastructure by adding advanced metering system, monitoring and automatic control equipment. Then he discussed about the benefit of smart grid in terms of efficiency, reliability and environment aspects. Some solar applications were also discussed by the speaker such as: Solar power transportation, solar heating and cooling, solar thermal electricity, solar energy storage etc. He also talked about the future scope which can be taken up by the researchers. Utility grid connected PV, solar pump for irrigation, off/on grid PV for residential, micro grid and utility grid PV hybrid solar were some applications and research problems discussed by the speaker along with some start up ideas. The session being come to final by discussing about the inter-disciplinary development in this area such as thermal imaging, IOT based SCADA, live plant monitoring, performance analysis using machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) followed by Q&A session. The session was really very interactive which was possible by the participants and finally ended with the vote of thanks  by Dr. Ranjeeta Patel.
